Prepare for the movemoving boxes

Moving to a new place, whether it is residence, an apartment or a new house is quite stressful. The key to successful moving is planning, organization and control.

Here’s a moving list you should be  doing 2 weeks prior the move.

  • Arrange for a moving company or your own transportation. Confirm the dates that you are wishing to move from your present location to the next.

TIPS: If you are going to hire a moving company, it's always benedictory to ask them for the earliest time slot for the date, to ensure no delay with the moving.

  • Arrange for disconnection (if applicable) of utilities and reconnection at new location.  Please see the attached Spreadsheet for Contact Info.

TIPS: Some utility companies have an online form you can fill out, but it's always best to phone in to ensure the set up been done properly.

  • Give address change to post office, charge accounts, credit cards, subscriptions (notice requires several weeks), friends and relatives.

TIPS: Try to set up "Canada Post Mail Forwarding" service for a peace of mind.

  • Notify your insurance company of new location for coverage: life, health, fire and auto.

TIPS: The Mortgage and Lawyer will need your "home Insurance" confirmation prior closing.

  • Get essential packing materials: sturdy boxes, tape, markers, newspaper, and tissue paper. Packing boxes can be obtained from grocery stores, liquor stores, and department stores.
